And trembling, to its source return

Well, I said the words and the bishop did the bishop-y stuff and I've been confirmed in the Church of England. I'm a really real Anglican now; you other Anglicans are stuck with me for the foreseeable future.

I felt a great peace, which is still with me, and erupts into joy. Some of you might call that the Holy Spirit. I am not certain, but prefer to say this is what I felt, what I feel.

I am delighted that you finally feel that you are a 'real Anglican', and your response to confirmation seems on of affirmation and perhaps another step on a journey, which is ongoing.

I can remember my feelings in November 2008, when I was received into the Church at Canterbury Cathedral (I had previously been confirmed at age 7 in the RC Church, and they don't reconfirm, but affirm your acceptance into the CofE) I wrote:

"The Sermon was uplifting and I was uplifted as well. I found the whole experience to be full of joy for all involved. I was amazed at the range of people from young (10 to 11 to some obviously in their 80's) being confirmed. The two Baptisms were a young adult and a 10 year old girl. My experience was enhanced by the presence of my spouse to support me.

I felt a strong presence of the Holy Spirit in those around me and I believe in the whole congregation. I thank God for coming to me in this way and for being able to affirm my faith in such a supportive environment".

It just seems to me that confirmation as an adult means so much more when you understand and fully appreciate the commitment you are making. This doesn't mean that confirmation at a younger age is not the same, it just reflects my own experience.

I see confirmation as a strengthening and a commissioning for service. May your service for the Lord be blessed, whatever form it may take.
